We currently run one, introductory, online health staff course with a second, in-depth course going live in mid-2024. We also run on-demand face-to-face courses.

Our courses provide education, support and networking opportunities for new and experienced health staff who are engaging with consumers in their health service.

CE101: Introduction To Consumer Engagement In Health Services

A short, free online course designed for health service staff that explores the basic concepts of consumer engagement which can be done in one sitting.

Who is this course for?

It is perfect as an introduction to consumer engagement for new health staff, or those wanting to know more about engaging with consumers.

How does it work?

Register by filling in the form via the Register button below. We will process your registration and you will receive an email from us. You can then start your course at any time that suits you.

The approximate time commitment to finish the course: Between 30 minutes and 2 hours to complete.

What do I need?

Participants need access to a computer/device with a reliable internet connection, functioning webcam and speakers. Participants can choose to print out extra course and study materials themselves.

CE101: Introduction To Consumer Engagement In Health Services

CE201: Building Consumer Engagement in Health Services – coming in mid-2024

An in-depth, online health service staff training that provides education, support, and networking opportunities for all health service staff.

Course details 2024

When:

  • Teaching period 3: 22 July – 27 September 2024
  • Teaching period 4: 14 October – 20 December 2024

Who is this course for?

It is for health service staff employed by NSW Health whose role involves some degree of consumer engagement.
Currently, online training is the only health service staff training we offer to mixed groups.

It is also convenient for health staff who work on with patients and who cannot attend our face-to-face classes due to case loads.

How does it work?

Participants have access to the course for the duration of the teaching period. During that time, they complete three online modules, which involve some reading, answering questions online, and participating in online chat forums.

Participants also have two optional Zoom live classes. During these, participants have the opportunity to chat with their fellow classmates, do some workshop activities, and ask any questions they may have or discuss issues they want to raise with the group, or with the trainer.

The approximate time commitment to finish the course: 2 – 6 hours.

CE201: Building Consumer Engagement in Health Services

CE202: Building Consumer Engagement in Health Services Workshop

Our face-to-face consumer representative training teaches the same content as CE201 with the added benefits of networking and face-to-face collaborative workshop discussions.

The training will help your staff to:

  • understand the benefits and roles of consumer representatives in health services
  • understand the fundamentals of consumer and community engagement
  • raise awareness of enablers and barriers to effective engagement
  • understand how to engage meaningfully and respectfully
  • access resources and use existing engagement structures in your organisation.

Who is this course for?

We currently only bring our face-to-face training course to you! If you are an organisation and have a group of health service staff to be trained, please email elearning@hcnsw.org.au.

How does it work?

Our training comes as a standard package, and our trainers will tailor the content depending on the group’s learning needs.

If you require specific customisation, there will be an additional fee for service, which we are happy to discuss with you.

Travel and accommodation expenses will be added to your invoice for training outside of the Greater Sydney area.
