A bit of history
In September 2012, the then NSW Health Minister Jillian Skinner officially launched the NSW health consumer peak organisation, Health Consumers NSW (HCNSW), in a ceremony at Parliament House in Sydney. This was a proud moment for a group of fierce and caring health consumers who had worked tirelessly to get to this point.
Back in 2010, the group had come together to discuss the need for NSW to have its own health consumer peak. Most of Australia’s other States already had well-established organisations in that function. The Interim Steering Committee secured seed funding from the then NSW Health Minister Carmel Tebbutt and HCNSW was incorporated as an association on 12 October 2010.
The first Board was elected and started working in October 2011 and the organisation became a registered health charity on 3 December 2012.
What is A decade of HCNSW about?
The publication looks back at our 10 years of operation, takes stock of where we are now and glimpses into the future of Health Consumer NSW. Most importantly, it thanks all the fantastic, hard-working people – health consumers and their representatives, Board members, staff, volunteers and supporters – who have made HCNSW into what it is today and who will continue to shape our organisation’s future.
