Applications close Monday 9 March 2026!
The George Institute for Global Health at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Health Consumers NSW are currently partnering on a project called Unlocking the power of linked data to improve patient journeys across the health system. This project aims to use existing de-identified health data to better understand how people use healthcare services and explore the ways in which health data can help us improve systems, services, and outcomes. To do this, the project will use data from the Lumos linked data asset.
Lumos is a New South Wales-wide health data program that connects de-identified patient data from primary care, such as general practices, with data from other health services, such as hospitals, to better understand how people move through and experience healthcare.
To ensure the project reflects the needs and values of consumers, we are seeking to establish a Consumer Reference Group to guide and inform the project priorities and approaches.
Purpose
The purpose of the Consumer Reference Group is to provide advice and work alongside research team members to ensure the project is designed, delivered, and communicated with consumers and communities at the centre.
Who can apply?
We are seeking 10-12 consumers, aged 18 and over, who:
- Have experience in the NSW health system (as a consumer, carer or health workforce)
- Have an interest in how patient data and information are used for system planning and evaluation purposes
Those with lived experience as a patient or (formal or informal) carer with cardiovascular disease, diabetes type 1 or 2, and/or end of life care are encouraged to apply. This is not a requirement for application.

What’s involved?
- The Consumer Reference Group will meet 4-6 times per year for 3 years (until the end of 2028)
- Meetings will most often take place online via Zoom, with some meetings taking place in-person. In-person meetings will take place at the Health Translation Hub at UNSW in Randwick, NSW (travel support is available, see below)
Remuneration & Support
- Reference Group members will be remunerated at a rate of $54 per hour, in line with the current recommendations. The payment includes all work associated with attendance at a meeting (i.e., including pre/post work)
- Travel and parking expenses related to attending any in-person meetings will be reimbursed
- Reference Group members will receive training and support from Consumer Engagement staff, including information about health data and consumer involvement in health research
